Mary John Jones, age 87, of Fayetteville, died Thursday, October 26, 2017. She was born July 18, 1930 in Fayetteville, the daughter of John and Ruth Fuller Skillern. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Lewis D. Jones, to whom she was married for 46 years. A lifelong learner she graduated from Fayetteville High School in 1948, attended the University of Arkansas and received her Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics and then received her Masters of Arts in Mathematics. Later she returned and received her Masters of Arts in Anthropology with a focus in Archeology. She was an outstanding high school teacher, an exceptional homemaker and was involved in many organizations, clubs and alumni associations. She was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, the Epsilon Chapter of Zeta Tau Alpha fraternity, Daughters of the American Revolution, Fayetteville Town Club, Bridge Club, Bible Study and, as an avid reader, more than one book club. She loved volunteering at Community Meals at St. Paul's, Shiloh Museum in Springdale, Headquarters House and the Museum at the U of A. Later she was an active participant in her community at Butterfield Trail Village. She is survived by three daughters, Diana Moss of Honolulu Hawaii, Rebecca Petillo and her husband Jay Petillo of Bethesda, Maryland and Carolyn Cole and her husband Jeff Cole of Dallas, Texas; a son, Gregory Jones and a daughter-in-law Brenda Ramsey Jones. She has nine grandchildren; Matthew Barker, Halley Dodge Jensen, Elena Petillo, John Henry Petillo, Clancy Jones, Chloe Jones, Ramsey Jones, Jackson Cole and Kegan Cole. The family is particularly grateful for the wonderful staff of the Butterfield Trail Village Health Care Unit and Washington Regional Hospice. Arrangements were under the direction of Moore's Chapel. Memorial service will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, November 3, 2017 at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Fayetteville. Memorials may be made to the Shiloh Museum, 118 W.
