Daniel Rieger McCormick, age 64, of Fayetteville, died Tuesday, May 9, 2017 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born July 13, 1952 in Prairie Grove, Arkansas, the son of James Edward and Florence Rieger McCormick, and was raised in Fayetteville on the land that his ancestors purchased in 1871. He was preceded in death by his father and his sister, Karen McCormick Weiss. He is survived by his wife, Mary Jernigan McCormick; his two sons, William McCormick and fiance' Whitney Wayne of Fayetteville, John Tucker McCormick of Fayetteville; his mother, Florence McCormick Halstead of Fayetteville; a brother, Jim McCormick and his wife Linda of Fort Collins, Colorado. Daniel was a 7th generation of the McCormick family who immigrated to the Fayetteville area in the1840's. He was immensely proud of his family's deep roots in the community, and had a love for Fayetteville and its history. Daniel was a member of the Fayetteville High school class of 1970, and went on to receive a Bachelor degree in Business Agriculture and a Master's degree in Public Accounting from the University of Arkansas. After becoming a licensed CPA, Daniel began work at Deloitte and Touche in Tulsa where he practiced for seven years. He then returned to his beloved hometown of Fayetteville where he built his own private accounting practice. Daniel loved the opportunities that owning a local business provided him, from serving his community and developing relationships to renovating his office on South School Avenue, the Depalma clinic designed by noted architect Faye Jones. Daniel enjoyed his work, and after many dedicated years he retired from his practice in 2015. He was a lifelong member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Fayetteville. Daniel served as treasurer on the board of Fayetteville Evergreen Cemetery Association for over 20 years. Daniel was a man of humble character and unique grace. His quiet strength was demonstrated daily through his unfailing love for his family, his support for and involvement in his community, and the genuine respect with which he treated everyone he encountered. With a noble and optimistic spirit, Daniel persevered in his life and work in spite of the many health challenges he had to face in his last eleven years. He will be remembered for his remarkable dignity, his calm and peaceful nature, and will be deeply missed by his family and friends. Memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday May 13 at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, with reception to follow.
