Mary Sybil Steele Smith, 84, of Fayetteville, formerly of Mansfield, Arkansas passed away Friday March 3, 2017 at Fayetteville. She was born September 12th, 1932 in Idaho Falls, Idaho to Silas Gordon Edwards and Minnie Tipton Edwards Yowell. She graduated high school from Mansfield, Arkansas and went to work for the local telephone company as a telephone operator. She retired from Southwestern Bell in 1984 after 25 years of service. Mary was especially proud to move back to the family farm in 1997 to live in the house that her father had built. She was the third generation to live on the land that had been in her family for 100 years. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Neado Poole and Terry Edwards; her husband, Gerald C. Steele in 1974, and husband Harold V. Smith in 1990. She is survived by her sister, Harriet Holland of Alma, Arkansas; three children, Gerald W. Steele of Dallas Texas, Cindy Longmate and husband Robert of Springdale and Damon Steele and wife Rebekah of Sherwood, Arkansas; Six grandchildren, Merry Ann Barnes of Springdale, Julie Rose of Cave Springs, Haley, Noah, Rachael, and Abigail Steele of Sherwood; three great-grandchildren, Gracie Young, Brianne and Lennis Rose of Cave Springs; and many nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be on Saturday, March 11, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at Friendship Cemetery in Springdale with Audie Long officiating. Visitation will be on Friday, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Sisco Funeral Chapel.
