John Calvin Stewart, Jr, 94, of Elkins passed away Monday, March 6, 2017 in Fayetteville. He was born August 30, 1922 in Crosses, Ark. to John and Mary Ethel Deaton Stewart. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Ethel Stewart; a son, James Robert Stewart; brothers, Jack, Joe, Harvey and James Stewart; sisters, Janie Barnes, Shirley Martin and Dixie Kaddo; a grandson, Jeffrey Hawkins; and a son-in-law, Tommy Brashears. John was a WWII Army veteran having received the Silver Star. He was a retired home builder, an avid fisherman, hunter, gardener and enjoyed the outdoors. He is survived by his wife of 74 years, Marie Hankins Stewart, of the home; daughters, Shirley Brashears of St. Paul, Ark. and Sue Bartholomew and husband, Gary of Fayetteville and Linda Lou LeVan of Fayetteville; son, Calvin Stewart and wife, Virginia of Fayetteville; sisters, Mary Lou Otta, Ruth Powell and Lela Lisky, all of California and Kay Bohannon of Fayetteville; nine grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and 15 great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday, March 10, 2017 at Beard's Chapel with the Reverend Lynn Crawford officiating. Interment will follow in Walnut Grove Cemetery under the direction of Beard's Chapel. There is no scheduled visitation. Condolences at www.beardsfuneralchapel.com.
