Mary Williams Stone (Mrs. Fred B. Stone Sr.) passed away on Monday, June 26, 2017, at the age of 90. She was born Dec. 18, 1926, at home in Clark County, Arkansas. She was the daughter of Susie Digby Williams and Randolph Williams. She married Dr. Fred B. Stone Sr. on Feb. 5, 1945. After moving to Stuttgart in 1952 with her husband, she served in various positions on the following: Stuttgart Hospital Auxiliary, Youth Center Board, Grand Prairie War Memorial Auditorium, Arkansas Hospital Auxiliary and Athletics Parents Association. She was named Citizen of the Year in 1971 and was the first woman elected to the Stuttgart School Board and Stuttgart City Council. She was named one of the Ten Outstanding Women in Arkansas in the 1970s. But most of all, she will be fondly remembered for her love of cooking and entertaining friends and family. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband who passed away in 1976; her infant son, Barry Bailey; her brother, Arlen Williams; and household assistant, Dorothy Garrett. Survivors are her brother, Jerry (Linda) Williams; her children, Fred (Cathy) Stone, Gary (Teresa) Stone, Fonda Scherm and Suzy (Jon Mark) Erstine; grandchildren, Payton (Scott) Johnson, Maggie Blair Stone, Whitney (Trey) Yarbrough, Ashley Gardner, Heather Blazer, Ashley (Brent) Bowie, Jamie Scherm, Kelly Scherm, Katy (Eric) Reabe and Patrick Erstine; and great-grandchildren, Sadie and Ella Yarbrough, Mary Mac Bowie, Jett Johnson, Kale Turley and Kayley, Aidan and Buckley; and with much love and devotion, Maeola Flournoy, a special family member for over 50 years. There will be a graveside service Thursday at 10 a.m. at Lone Tree Cemetery, 1740 Hwy. 79B in Stuttgart. Immediately following the service, a celebration of life will be at Turpin Funeral Home, 1107 W. 22nd St. in Stuttgart. Father Clayton Gould will preside over the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Dr. Jerry Morgan Scholarship Fund, c/o Stuttgart Memorial Hospital Foundation, P.O. Box 1905, Stuttgart, Ark. 72160.
