George Lee Sumpter

George Lee Sumpter, 88, of Rogers, Arkansas, passed away on January 1, 2017 at Washington Regional Medical Center in Fayetteville, Arkansas. He was the son of Alice and Robert Sumpter. He was born in Mehan, Oklahoma on February 22, 1928 and was a member of the First Christian Church in Rogers, Arkansas. He was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce, his parents, and three brothers, Bobby, Kenneth and James and sister, Martha. He is survived by 2 brothers, Virgil Sumpter and wife, Ethel and Donald Sumpter and wife, and Coretta of Rogers; 2 sisters, Margaret Sumpter of Choteau, Oklahoma, and Linda Wehr and husband, Dean of Whitney, Texas; adopted daughters, Marne Nemechek of Ponca City, Oklahoma and Roberta Pennington of Overland Park, Kansas; adopted son, David Keenen of Rogers; sister-in-law, Joanne Sumpter of Cushing, Oklahoma; many nieces and nephews; caregiver and friend, Bernadine Jones of Springdale. He was a retired Electric Engineer from Daisy Manufacturing Co. after 32 years. He loved to travel, take care of David's cattle, boating and making new friends. A memorial service will be held on January 14, 2017 at 2pm in the First Christian Church, 905 S. 13th St., Rogers. A private family burial will be held in Stillwater at a later date.
