Kathryn Lee Chadima, age 66, broke free of her physical restraints and left her body to run freely with her family who were waiting on the other side on Saturday, Feb.18, 2017, in Fayetteville. She was born on Dec. 23, 1950, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to Wayne F. and Barbara A. Dytrt Chadima. She was preceded in death by her parents; and her brother and best friend, John Chadima, of Iowa City, Iowa. Kathy contracted polio at the age of three, and though the virus left her disabled, she didn't let that hinder her from living a full and productive life. She was a beacon of hope and strength. After retiring from the Veterans Healthcare System of the Ozarks, she delighted in making sympathy cards for veterans in that facility's Palliative Care Dept. Possessed of an indomitable positive outlook, she spread cheer and laughter far and wide like seeds sewn in the wind. Kathy always said that it's the little things that matter and made it a point to be kind and personable to strangers she encountered daily. Kathy leaves behind her wife and life partner, Paula C. Blackard of Fayetteville; her sister and brother-in-law, JoAnn and Bryan Bailey of Milford, Iowa; two nephews, Chad and Jonathan Baily and their families; her Uncle Lee Dytrt; and countless friends who will miss her dearly. A memorial service will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to your local animal shelter. Condolences may be given online at www.nelsonberna.com.
