Alice Marie Wilson Skelton, 95, of Springdale, passed away Wednesday, February 1, 2017. She was born on October 8, 1921, in Hazel Valley, Arkansas to Earnest and Bertha (Anderson) Wilson. Marie was a devoted wife to the late L. Quentin Skelton. They were married on April 17, 1943 in Springdale, Arkansas, while Quentin was in the Army. After they married, he was deployed to the European Theater and fought in World War II for the first two years of their marriage and through the birth of their first child. They were happily married for 72 years. Mrs. Skelton was preceded in death by her husband, Quentin Skelton, and five brothers Doyle, Edwin, Kirby, Daily, and Reuel Wilson. She is survived by her two sons, James D. and Mary Ann Skelton and Ronnie and Linda Skelton, both of Springdale; two daughters, Jacque and Norman Long and Shirley and Rick Jackson, both of Edmond, Okla.; two sisters, Imogene Stout and Loretta Garrison of Fayetteville; and one brother, Ralph and Mary Ellen Wilson of Rockwall, Texas. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren and spouses and 20 great-grandchildren. She was a long-time member of First United Methodist Church in Springdale and was active in the United Methodist Women Circle. She was also a life-long member of the Washington County Home Extension "Growing 49ners" Club and volunteered at the Veteran's Hospital, the Washington County Fair, and many other local charities. Marie's greatest accomplishment was caring for her family. She enjoyed attending family gatherings, reunions, decorations, and her children's and grandchildren's activities. Visitation will be held 4-6 p.m., Sunday, February 5, 2017 at Moore's Chapel. Funeral service will be held 10 a.m., Monday, February 6 at First United Methodist Church in Springdale followed by burial at Black Oak Cemetery, under the direction of Moore's Chapel. Pallbearers will be her six grandsons. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Black Oak Cemetery, 20228 Sunset Rd., Winslow, Arkansas 72959.
