Sondra Schofield

Sondra S. (Clift) Schofield, 76, of Bentonville, Arkansas, a dedicated teacher for 29 years and a loved and honored wife, mother, grandmother, and sister, died at her home January 30, 2017 from the ravages of breast cancer, a disease she battled valiantly for ten years before succumbing. She was born November 11, 1940 in Owosso, MI to Paul Selph Clift and Alice Marie Vance. She earned a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from Southwest Missouri State College in Springfield, Mo., graduating cum laude in 1962. In 1986, she earned a master's degree in Reading from Western Illinois University where she taught for one year. Her elementary teaching career was broad and varied. She taught in Saint Louis, Anchorage, Alaska, Clark AFB in the Philippines, Neübrucke in Germany, Provo, Utah, and Macomb, Ill. She retired from teaching in 2003. It was in Germany where she met her husband, Dale W. Schofield, a career Army Officer. They were married August 17, 1968 and enjoyed 48 years together, finally settling in Bentonville, Ark. in 2009. She was an involved and loving mother who created opportunities for her children and grandchildren to learn and grow. She is survived by her husband, Dale, two sisters; Katherine Dasal of Franklin, Tenn. and Alice (Ray) Irish of Wentzville, Mo.; four children, Alane (Peter) Schultz of Centerville, Utah; Marshal (Lacey) Schofield of Bentonville, Ark.; Nancy (James) Allen of Branson, Mo.; and Don Benjamin (Jennifer) of Southington, Conn.; along with 10 grandchildren, who were the joy of her life. She was preceded in death by her parents. Visitation for family and friends will be held Saturday, February 4, 2017, 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the Centerton 2nd Ward LDS chapel, 950 Seba Road, Centerton, Ark. 72719, followed by the funeral service at 11 a.m. Bishop Jose Gonzalez officiating. Interment at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Virginia. Memorials will be donated to the Northwest Arkansas Children's Shelter. Arrangements by Epting Funeral Home.
