Jacob Perryman Mikles III of Booneville, Arkansas was born December 1, 1946 in Fort Smith, Arkansas. He passed from this life December 4, 2017 in Danville, Arkansas. Perry was the son of the late J.P. and Agnes Mikles who preceded him in death. He is survived by his two daughters. Rachel Mikles Robinson (and husband Scott Robinson) and Jenny Mikles Kellar (and husband James Kellar), his two grandsons Parker Jacob Robinson and Jack Haven Kellar, and his closest friends Johnny Chambers, Bobby Stephens, Betsy Danielson, and Elaine Roberts. He is also survived by friends too numerous to mention. After graduating from Booneville High School in 1964, Perry then graduated from the University of Arkansas where he was a member of the Kappa Sigma fraternity. He returned to Booneville where he was a member of the First Baptist Church in Booneville for 63 years and actively participated in the Progressive Believers Sunday School Class. However, Perry was also known to attend services at other institutions and could frequently be found at the Sunday Service at the First United Methodist Church just across the street. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed fishing with the Littlefield Oil Company Bass Club and hunting quail. It was his passion for the outdoors that lead to his appointment by Governor Bill Clinton to the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission for seven years beginning in 1985. During his tenure, he was instrumental in creating the Blue Mountain Special Use Area that was then named in his honor as the J. Perry Mikles Blue Mountain SUA and continues to host national field trials. Perry was a vocal Razorback and Bearcat fan and took delight in cheering their victories. In fact, he enjoyed all sports, training race horses, listening to music, and studying history and politics. Most of all, he enjoyed chatting with friends and family, and was known for his amazing memory of people's names and their family history. He delighted in those visits and would happily help anyone he thought was in need. That memory served Perry well as did his lifelong devotion to the Democrat party and his love of politics. He cherished lobbying for Governor Bill Clinton's education reform bill in 1983 and campaigning tirelessly for his dear friend as Clinton successfully ran for Governor as well as President. Perry also believed that local campaigns were equally important and he served as Election Commissioner and was the head of the Logan County Democrats. While his body gave out and he is no longer with us, he accomplished a great deal with his time here on earth. We will cherish the memories of the good times we had with him and enjoy the legacy he left behind. The family will receive friends at the family home, 170 Riviera Drive, Booneville, Ark. on Wednesday, December 6, 2017 from 6-8 p.m. to share stories and remember a life lived to the fullest. Funeral services are scheduled for Thursday December 7, 2017 at 11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Booneville with Rev. Mike Smith officiating. The burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery under the direction of Roberts Funeral Home. The pallbearers will be Johnny Chambers, Aaron Littlefield, Bobby Stephens, J.O. Slone, Erik Danielson, Jarod Gossett, Mike Donnell, Will Beason, Alfred Crenshaw, and Steve Pfiefer. Honorary Pallbearers are the Chambers Bank and Chambers Bancshares employees, members of the Progressive Believers Sunday School Class, and members of the Littlefield Oil Company Bass Club. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to the South Logan County Boys and Girls Club. www.robertsfh.com.
