Hiram H. Brooks

Lt. Col. Hiram H. Brooks, USMC (Ret.) passed away April 24, 2017. He was born to Byron and Eloise Brooks in Carthage, IL. on May 26, 1921. He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Rita L. Brooks; son, James R. Brooks and grandson, Joshua Brooks. He is survived by his sister, Jane Goodman of Wilmington, N.C.; his daughters, Pat Holman of Blue Springs, Mo., Maria Anderson and sons, Michael, Bill and Richard Brooks, all of Springdale, Ark.; six grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. He attended the University of Arkansas and was a member of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity. He received a commendation from President Harry S. Truman for his service during World War II, served in the Guadalcanal Campaign and was active duty during the Korean War. He was a past President of the Fayetteville Exchange Club, a member of the American Angus Association and a member of the St. Louis Men's Apparel Association. He was an avid golfer and Razorback Fan. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Elizabeth Richardson Center or the American Diabetes Association. Visitation will be held Sunday, April 30, 2017 from 3-5 p.m. at Beard's Chapel, Fayetteville. Funeral services will be at the Fayetteville National Cemetery Monday, May 1, 2017 at 2 p.m. with full military honors. Condolences at www.beardsfuneralchapel.com.
