Robbie Gayle Bauguss

Gayle Bauguss, 86, of Springdale, Ark. passed away at Circle of Life Hospice on April 4, 2017. (Robbie) Gayle was born in Tallulah, La. on August 20, 1930 to Belvin and Menzie Lee (Westmoreland) Brown. Her early teen years were spent in Shreveport, La. Following high school graduation in Lancaster, Calif., Gayle returned to La., and graduated from Louisiana Tech University with a degree in Health, Physical Education, and Recreation. In addition to a summer session at Tech, she taught in Vivian, La., where she met and married Lee Britton Bauguss. Following Lee's engineering career, the family lived in Pineville, La., Dallas, Texas, Thousand Oaks, Calif., and suburbs of Detroit, Boston, and Chicago. Gayle resumed her career after the five children were in school, teaching in Michigan, Massachusetts, and Illinois. She and Lee enjoyed an early retirement in Hot Springs Village, Ark. where the children and grandchildren spent annual vacations together. The family enjoyed the Village's numerous recreational amenities, particularly tennis, golf, and water activities at their lake home. Her many interests included education, swimming, music, current events, and sports, particularly, USTA competitive tennis. Gayle was always active in the activities of the church to which the family belonged in each of the locations where they lived. Most recently she enjoyed attending Cross Pointe Community Church in Tontitown, Ark., since moving here to be near family in 2009. She enjoyed participating in the church's nursing home ministry at The Maples and the Domino and Ladies Wednesday Morning life groups. She is preceded in death by her wonderful husband, Lee Bauguss, and her oldest son, James Leonard Bauguss II. Survivors are daughters, Sue Wood and husband, Bud, of Springdale, Menzie Campbell of Gainesville, Fla.; sons, Doug Bauguss and wife, Julie, of Phoenix, Britt Bauguss and wife, Laurie, of Jacksonville, Fla., daughter-in-law, Tracey Bauguss of Rockwall, Texas; and special family member Kathy Holt of Lantana, Texas. Her one granddaughter, Kristin McCloud of Springdale was faithful to keep Granny in the best of health possible. Grandsons are James Leonard Bauguss III of Lantana, Texas, Josh Bauguss (Jessica) of Albuquerque, N.M., Jason Wood of Boulder, Colo., Jon Wood (Hannah) of Tontitown, David Bauguss of Phoenix, Ariz., Robert Bauguss of Conifer, Colo., Brad Bauguss of Stamford, Conn., and Jake Bauguss of Rockwall, Texas. Great grandchildren are Rhiannon Elizabeth-Gayle Bauguss of Lantana, Texas, Skylar, Lakyn, & Huntington Lee Wood of Tontitown, Ian Kinyon of Tontitown, and Carson Bauguss of Phoenix, Ariz. Survivors also include sister-in-law, Sue Childs, of Hot Springs, Ark. and brother-in-law, Hewitt Bauguss of Angleton, Texas. A memorial service will be held at Cross Pointe Community Church of Tontitown, Ark. on Monday, April 10.
