John "Skip" Gregory

John R. "Skip" Gregory, 79, died early in the morning of November 7, 2016 at Circle of Life Legacy Village Hospice in Bentonville. He was born December 4, 1936 in Baton Rouge, La. to Lawrence B. and Virginia Rucker Gregory. Skip lived most of his life in Rogers and served the City as a City Councilman, Interim Mayor, member of the Planning Commission, and member of several downtown merchant committees for over 30 years. More recently, he served on the boards of First Christian Church and the Adult Development Center (Open Avenues). He was also former chairman of the Benton County Republican Party and a proud member of the Rogers Noon Rotary Club. Skip employed many wonderful people over the last 30 years of his working career at the Coca-Cola bottling plant in Rogers, American/First Federal Savings and Loan, and as a owner of Gregory's Menswear in downtown Rogers. He is preceded in death by his parents and two stepfathers, Matt Lavallee and Craig Jackson. Skip is survived by his wife of 50 years, Martha Luffman Gregory; four children, Vicki Minton and husband, Mike of Edmond, Okla., Edwin Gregory and wife, Vickie of Thomasville, N.C., Sharon Heuring and husband, John of Oklahoma City, Okla., and Larry Gregory and wife, Valere of Rogers, Ark.; and several loving grandchildren. Memorial service will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, November 14, 2016 at First Christian Church in Rogers with Rev. Shawn Wallace officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Circle of Life hospice or Open Avenues. Arrangements have been entrusted to Stockdale-Moody Funeral Service in Rogers.
