Vernon Don Whiteside

MMC Vernon Don Whiteside, 81, of West Fork, passed away on May 19, 2016 at his home. He was born on Nov. 21, 1934 in Mammoth Springs, Ark., to Leslie and Opal Gregory Whiteside. Vernon was a retired Navy veteran, serving his country for 20 years as a Machinist. He was a family man who enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a member of Zinnamon Church of West Fork. He is preceded in death by his parents and one son, Vernon Whiteside Jr. Survivors include his wife, Mae Whiteside of the home; two daughters, Opal Ford and husband Kelly of Nixa, Mo., Lorena Sisemore and husband Terry of Springdale, Ark.; four grandchildren; Michael Carnes of Springdale, Ark., and Amie Holmes of West Fork, Ark., Andrea Russell of Broken Arrow, Okla. and Meghan Marlin of Minonk, Ill; eleven great-grandchildren and two sisters, Shirley Honeycut and Sue Hampton both of Thayer, Mo. Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. in Friendship Cemetery in Springdale on Monday, May 23, 2016 with Military honors. Frank Dalmut will be officiating.
