James Gomer Alsup

James "Gomer" Alsup, 93, of Gravette, Arkansas died Wednesday, March 16, 2016 at his residence. He was born February 23, 1923 in Goodlett, Texas to Abe and Pearl Morrow Alsup. He proudly served in the United States Army, in both Japan and the Philippines during World War II. He was a member of the VFW and was also a Mason. He moved to Gravette in 1977 after retiring from Pioneer Gas Co. in Midland, TX. He loved to dance and was active at the Senior Citizens Center in Gravette. Gomer was a member of the "Hang Loose Cutting Horse Association" and spent many happy hours training horses. He was a member of the Decatur Salebarn Church. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Gloria Alsup in 2005; three brothers, Lee Roy, Aubrey, Bob Alsup and one sister, Naomi Yates. Gomer is survived locally by nephews, Dennis Alsup and wife, Camelia, Danny Alsup and wife, Debbie; nieces, Simona Simon and husband, Milton, Lavon Stark and husband, Rickie; special friends, Dale and Diane Ayers of Bentonville, Ark.; numerous family members and many dear friends. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, March 19, 2016 at the Decatur Salebarn Church in Decatur with Pastor Terry Horton and the Rev. Dr. Darrell Kepler officiating. Burial will follow in Bethel Cemetery in Gravette. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until service time. Memorials may be made in memory of Gomer Alsup to the Decatur Salebarn Church, 8950 S.
