Roger Morrow Pitts, 77, a resident of Lincoln, passed away March 15, 2016 at his home. He was born May 26, 1938 in Fayetteville, the son of Sterling and Mansie Elizabeth Morrow Pitts. Roger married Mary Alice Mileur in 1958. He graduated from the University of Arkansas in 1961 with a general agriculture degree and certificate of teaching. They moved to Hot Springs where he taught Vocational agriculture at Lakeside High School for one year. They moved to Hope where he was then hired as the Farm Bureau Agency Manager in Hempstead County. Roger and Mary Alice returned to the family farm in 1964 where they spent the next 52 years farming. They celebrated Washington County Farm Family of the Year in 1989 and were honored with the Arkansas Department of Agriculture Century Farm award in 2014. Roger was a loving, humble and kind, yet competitive man. He was a member of the state runner-up Lincoln basketball team in 1956, named to the Arkansas State Little All-American football team and played one year of football at Arkansas Tech University. He spent his adult life as an avid Arkansas Razorback and Lincoln Wolves Fan. He loved traveling to surrounding cities and states to watch his children and grandchildren compete in athletics and participate in their many activities. Roger enjoyed hunting with his family and friends. Served on the Lincoln Consolidated School District Board of Education, Chairman of Finance - Central United Methodist Church, Past president Washington County Farm Bureau, Washington County Farm Bureau Board of Directors, Member of F & AM Masonic Lodge # 615. He was preceded in death by his parents and his son, Russell Sterling Pitts. Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Mary Alice Pitts; two daughters, Sarah Simmons and husband Terry of Prairie Grove and Alicia Ezell and husband Tracy of Bryant; one daughter-in-law, Guatha Pitts of Lincoln; nine grandchildren, Seth Sterling Pitts, Connor Thomas Pitts, Alec Morrow Pitts, Dustin Riley Simmons, Dalton Ryder Simmons, Trevor Keith Ezell, Tanner Cole Ezell, Kimberly Simmons Brown and Shane Ryan Simmons; three great-grandchildren, Braxton Gunter Brown, Braylon Allen Brown and Lennon Adeline Pitts. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6 until 7 p.m at Luginbuel Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held Friday March 18, 2016 - 10 a.m. at Central United Methodist Church in Lincoln. Burial will be in Sugar Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers will be: Seth Pitts, Connor Pitts, Dustin Simmons, Dalton Simmons, Trevor Ezell, Alec Pitts and Tanner Ezell. Honorary pallbearers will be: Terry Simmons, Tracy Ezell, Curtis Griscom, Darren Wilhite, Jay Pitts, Ronnie Mileur and Shannon Burks.
