Iva Lavina McCormick, 93, a resident of Harrison, passed away at the Willard Walker Hospice Home in Fayetteville, Ark. on March 12, 2016. Visitation will be Friday, March 18 at Holt Memorial Chapel from 1:00 to 2:30 p.m. followed by a graveside service at Maplewood Cemetery at 3 p.m. The daughter of Oscar and Iva Jones was born on November 1, 1922 in Snowball, Ark. Lavina attended the University of Arkansas where she attained her degree and then devoted herself to students as a teacher in Searcy, Newton, and Boone counties before she started her 38-year career at Boone County Allied and Alltel Telephone Companies. Lavina met her husband, Jack McCormick, in Harrison and after they were married, they purchased a farm in Harrison where they raised cattle and were a vital part of a growing community. In addition to her farm life, Lavina had a passion for gardening, antique shopping, and traveling. She was also very involved in her church, Eagle Heights Baptist Church, where she built many rich relationships and was unwavering in living her faith each and every day. Her dedication and commitment to her family and friends is why she was considered a dear friend to so many. She was preceded in death by the love of her life, Jack; her parents; a sister, Margarette Blackwood; and her brother-in-law, Leon Blackwood. Survivors include many nieces, nephews, cousins, and other family members who will miss her.
