Ruby Leeta Carpenter

Ruby Leeta Pollock Carpenter, 92, of Elkins passed away February 27, 2016 at Circle of Life Hospice. She was born September 7, 1923 in Elkins, the seventh child of Orvis Cecil (O.C.) Pollock and Jessie Robertson Pollock. She was married to George L. Carpenter, Jr. on December 26, 1949 in Sebastian County, Arkansas. Ruby is preceded in death by her parents; husband; her daughter, Linda Carpenter Sweetser; four brothers and five sisters. She was a member of First Southern Baptist Church of Goshen and a homemaker. She loved her family, making quilts, playing the piano, singing schools and crocheting. She was the alto member of the Pollock Sisters Quartet, where she started singing with her sisters when she was 13. They sang all over Northwest Arkansas in shaped-note harmony for 60 plus years. Ruby is survived by a son, George L. Carpenter, III of Elkins; three daughters, Barbara Lewis of Elkins, Geneva (Mark) Weiler of Greeley, CO. and Gloria (Bruce) Carlton of Shawnee, OK; one brother, James Calvin Pollock of Big Cabin, OK; 11 grandchildren, John Lewis, Anna Lewis, Kimberly Huggins, Jack West Sweetser, Luke Weiler, Jordan Weiler, Libby Weiler, Monica Blair Conley, George Carpenter, IV, Elizabeth Falls and Mary Margaret Sparks; 11 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and friends. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday, March 7, 2016 at Beard's Chapel with Mark Weiler officiating. Interment will follow in McCord Cemetery under the direction of Beard's Chapel. The family will receive friends from 9: a.m. until service-time at the funeral home on Monday, March 7, 2016. Pallbearers will be her grandsons, John Lewis, Jack West Sweetser, Sean Huggins, Luke Weiler, Jordan Weiler and George Carpenter IV.
