Jacqueline (Jackie) Pauline Stevens Brown, 93, formerly of Fayetteville, Ark. died on Memorial Day, May 30, 2016. She was born May 10, 1923 in Little Rock, Arkansas, the daughter of Jesse Curry and Mary Louise Craig Stevens. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Norton Brown, son Steven Norton Brown and his wife Judith Ann Brown, and a brother, Jesse C. Stevens Jr. She was educated in Little Rock public schools and attended the University of Arkansas, where she met her husband of 68 years. After living in Joplin and Independence, Mo., they relocated to Fayetteville in 1973 to make it their permanent home. Jackie was the retired assistant to the dean of the former College of Agriculture & Home Economics at the University of Arkansas and served in several other positions prior to that time. She was a member of Central United Methodist Church in Fayetteville, a member of the United Methodist Women's Circle 7, Original member o f the Scottish Society of Northwest Arkansas, a member of Marion Chapter DAR, President of the former Southwest Missouri Conference Women's Society of Christian Service. She presided at the Uniting Conference of the Missouri West Conference WSCS and Wesleyan Service Guild and the Evangelical United Brethren Society of World Services, forming the new Missouri West Conference, United Methodist Women. She served as the first president and was a member of the committee which chose the new logo of the cross and flame. One of Jackie's greatest joys while living in Missouri was to travel to Mount Sequoyah in Fayetteville to attend the South Central Jurisdiction Schools of Missions to earn certification to teach in local churches and to conduct workshops pertaining to various offices. Jackie is survived by a granddaughter, Jennifer Tinsley and husband Blake of Anderson, Mo.; grandson, Chris Brown of Bryant, Ark.; great-granddaughter, Bailey Stehm and husband Shea of Joplin, Mo.; and a great-grandson, Ethan Tinsley of Anderson. Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. on June 3, 2016 at Ozark Memorial Cemetery in Joplin, Mo.
