Garrie Leon Carter, 79, passed away on July 23, 2016 in Bella Vista, Arkansas. He was born in Blackfoot, Idaho on November 22, 1936 to the late Victor R. and Sarah (Schaak) Carter. He was the husband of Pat (Ross) Carter. Garrie was a firefighter for 23 years before retiring as Captain of the Wichita Fire Department. He served in the U.S. Navy, was a postal carrier for the Bentonville/Bella Vista area, was a student at Wichita State University, house painter, inventor, mentor and friend to many. He enjoyed his wood turning group and making exquisite pens and bowls. Garrie also loved to fly his radio controlled airplanes that he built. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Kennie Carter and Darah Rex Carter. He is survived by his wife, Pat Carter of Bentonville; son, Steven Carter of Bentonville; daughter, Melissa Schultz of Springdale; brothers, Ronnie Carter of Indiana and Gerald Carter of Idaho; sisters, Victoria Henwood and husband Daryl of Kansas and Connie Miller of Oregon; grandchildren, Josh McNelly and Michael of Moody, Texas; Bradley McNelly and Nicole of Sulphur Springs, Arkansas; Jennifer Carter of Arizona; Sara Saenz and Valente of Arizona; 9 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. A visitation will be on Friday, July 29, 2016 from 10-12 with a funeral service to follow in Rollins Funeral Home Chapel, Rogers, Arkansas. Burial will be at a later date.
