William Charles "Skip" Wofford, 76, of Alma, died Friday, Feb. 19, 2016 surrounded by his family. Skip was born in Mullan, Idaho. He graduated from Fair Park High School in Shreveport, La. and Ouachita Baptist College with a degree in music education. He served in the United States Army for 7 ½ years, with active duty in Vietnam, achieving the rank of Major. Skip was a dynamic Christian, serving as a music and youth minister for 60 years. He began directing music in churches at age 16 in Shreveport, La. and went on to serve in churches in Columbus, Ga., Seaside, Calif., Haleiwa, Hawaii, Marrero, La., and in Arkansas at Mt. Ida, Bauxite, Benton, Booneville, Rye Hill, and at First Baptist Church, Ozark, the last 13 years, retiring Oct. 25, 2015. Skip was preceded in death by his Father, William Charles Wofford and Mother, Velva Trigg Wofford. He is survived by his wife of 54 ½ years, Nancy Magby Wofford; son, Wade Wofford and wife, Jennifer from Greenwood; daughter, Wendy Johnson and husband, Michael from Springdale; sisters, Gwen Woodhull and husband, Bob from Greenwood and Gay Moore and husband, Randy from Little Rock; Grandchildren: Chad and Caroline Johnson, Allie and Abigail Wofford, Candace Scott and husband, Pete. The family will visit with friends from 6-8 p.m., Monday, Feb. 22 at First Baptist Church Activities Center, Ozark, Ark. Celebration of Life Service is scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 23, 10 a.m. at First Baptist Church, Ozark with Reverend Ted Darling officiating with burial at a later date in Fort Smith National Cemetery under the direction of Shaffer Funeral Home of Ozark. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Operation Christmas Child or Arkansas Baptist Disaster Relief, in care of FBC Ozark, P.O. Box 195, Ozark, AR 72949.
