Lewa Fern Unger

Lewa Fern Unger, age 89, passed away Tuesday February 2, 2016 in Springdale. She was born July 11, 1926 in Odell, Arkansas, the daughter of James A Prather and Rosie Hayes. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Charles Mack Unger, two brothers, Johnie and Junior Prather and two sisters, Edith Dalson and Ruby Brouiette. She graduated from Fayetteville High School in 1945; she also worked as a telephone operator for Bell Telephone, Service Telephone, The University of Arkansas and the Veterans Administration. She was active for many years as a member of University Baptist Church, and played washboard in their Senior Servants Kitchen Band. She was also active in the Washington County Extension Club and TOPS of Springdale. She is survived by one son Steven Paul Unger and his wife, Lynette of Springdale, Arkansas; a daughter, Sue Unger of Houston, Texas; two grandchildren, Emily Unger of Fredericksburg, Virginia, and Thomas Unger. Visitation will be 2 p.m. - 4 p.m. Sunday February 7, 2016 at Moore's Chapel. Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday at Moore's Chapel, with burial to follow at the Fayetteville National Cemetery.
