Douglas Anthony "Doug" Dean, 57, of Bentonville passed away Wednesday, December 21. He was born May 16, 1959 in Kennett, Mo. to the late Douglas Sherman Dean and Virginia Lafurn Lemonds Dean. His family moved to Rogers during his youth in 1968 while in grade school. He played baseball in the Rogers summer leagues through Babe Ruth and football in Jr. High and High School prior to his graduation from Rogers High School. Many a spring, summer and fall softball leagues was his passion and it kept him busy with the thing he loved most. Weekends was spent traveling with his family to cities, in and around the state of Arkansas, playing and winning more softball tournaments than not for 25 years plus, until he retired due to an illness. He also enjoyed gun collecting, target shooting and reading. And of course, if he didn't purchase a new car one year, he would the next. His retirement followed a nearly 35 year career with Tyson Foods, mostly spent at the Bentonville Krispy Plant before its closing and moving to the Springdale GO. Survivors include Brenda Smithson Dean of Bentonville, his loving wife of 34 years; his daughter, Caitlin Dean of Rogers; his son, Morgan Dean of Bentonville; his sister, Connie Elam (Mike) of Bella Vista, 3 brothers, Dennis Dean (Donna) of Bella Vista, Phil Dean (Brenda Kay) of Springdale and Bruce Dean (Angie) of Rogers; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday in the Chapel of Rollins Funeral Home in Rogers and the Funeral will be at 2:00 pm Thursday at the funeral home.
