Jon D. Hershberger

Jon D. Hershberger, age 83, passed away December 03, 2016 at Circle of Life Legacy Village Hospice in Bentonville. He was born January 21, 1933 in Enid, Okla. to Elmer & Virginia Hershberger. At age 5, the family moved to S.E. Kansas where they engaged in farming with emphasis on the dairy. After graduation from Girard High School he began his ongoing experiences in the field of Education which included a B.S in Math, a M.S. in Counseling and finally a Doctorate in Education. He taught MATH, worked as a High School Counselor, a High School Principal and finally as Superintendent of Schools in Kansas. He also was in the educational field in Missouri and Arkansasa after retirement. On May 10, 1053, he and Luella White were married. She survives him at their home in Rogers. They had two children: Janice Ruth (Hershberger) and husband, Dan of Pea Ridge, Ark. and Dr. S.R. Hershberger of Perkins, Okla.; three grandchildren, Nicholas of Pea Ridge, Ark., Sara Harris and husband, Galen of Rogers, Ark. and Danielle Wotipka of Cushing, Okla.; four great-grandchildren, Emily and William Harris, Sadie Wotipka and Camryn Hagler; and one brother, Vernon Hershberger and wife, Myrna of Girard, Kan. and their five children. Jon was an avid outdoorsman, with fishing and hunting his main interest. Later in life, he had a hobby of working with stained glass and also displaying his quilt pattern designs at Silver Dollar City. Those quilt pattern designs were from his mother who had saved them from the Kansas City Star newspaper during the 1930's. A Memorial Service will be at 1 p.m., Friday, December 9, 2016 at Stockdale-Moody Funeral Chapel – 2898 W. Walnut, Rogers, Ark. with Galen Harris, grandson through marriage, officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to Bella Vista Sportsman Club or a Charity of the donor's choice. Arrangements have been entrusted to Stockdale-Moody Funeral Services of Rogers.
