Dr. Jim Moore Sr.

Dr. Jim Moore Sr., 93, of Pine Bluff died at home Nov. 30, 2016. Born in Pine Bluff March 5, 1923 to the late William James and Myrtis Sage Moore, he grew up in Pine Bluff, attended Pine Bluff High School, and graduated from Gulf Coast Military Academy in 1941. Dr. Moore earned his BS degree in Mathematics from Hendrix College, a master's degree in Meteorology from the California Institute of Technology, and his DDS degree from the University of Tennessee College of Dentistry. During WWII he served in Europe as a first lieutenant with Eighth Air Force, 801st/492nd Bombardment Group in the Special Operations Air Arm of the Office of Strategic Services (OSS). Returning to Pine Bluff, Dr. Moore practiced general dentistry at 909 West Fifth from 1959-1980. Survivors include two sons, Jim Moore. Jr. (Connie) of Pine Bluff, David Moore of Magnet Cove, Ark.; stepchildren, John Bryant (Leonette) of Lonsdale, Ark., Mary Bryant Cavin (Dabbs) of Little Rock, Ark., Doug Owens (Bonnie) of Slidell, La., Becky Owens Tolson of North Little Rock, Ark., Karen Owens Holloway (David) of Nashville, Tenn.; sixteen grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; three wives, Virginia Wright Moore, Blanche Bryant Moore, and Ella Owens Moore; sister, Margaret Moore; and step-sons, Bob Bryant and Bubba Bryant. The family especially thanks Lapita Prieto, Joann Jenkins, Alberta Reed, and Hospice Angels for their care and concern. Private graveside services will be conducted by Ralph Robinson & Son.
