George Victor Abide

George Victor Abide of Rogers, Ark., was born in Greenville, Miss., on November 6, 1926 and passed away on August 24, 2016. He was the son of Melhem and Bonda Farris Abide from Bzebdine, Lebanon. His siblings who predeceased him were Peter Abide, Victoria Jurey, Lee Abide, Virginia Tonore, Paul Abide Sr., Mitchell Abide Sr., Gloria Kelley, and Mary Alice Duncan. George is survived by his wife, Sharron Fisher Abide, daughters Dawin (Nameh) Salem, Melissa (David) Griffith and sons, Victor (Elizabeth), Gary (Kim), and Matthew (April) and 17 grandchildren. Upon graduation from Greenville High School, he enlisted in the Navy and served during World War II. He was also in the Army and served in intelligence. He was a graduate of LSU with a B.A. in Business. Although he was offered a professorship at LSU in Business and Economics, he returned to Greenville to care for his widowed mother. He went on to establish a construction business and became an accomplished builder and developer for half a century. He was the founder of the Boys and Girls Clubs in Washington County, Miss. In 1995 he moved to Northwest Ark. to establish Abide Furniture and Interiors with his three sons. He wanted to be remembered for only the things that really matter in life, love of God, love for his family and his military service to his country. A Rite of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m., Monday, August 29 at St. Stephen Catholic Church in Bentonville with the Rosary being recited at 9 a.m. A visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until service time. Graveside committal services with Full Military Honors will be held immediately afterward at the National Cemetery in Fayetteville, Ark.
