Roy Glover

Roy Henry Glover Jr., 88, passed away on Tuesday, August 9, 2016. He was born September 29, 1927 in Chicago, Illinois the son of Roy Henry Glover Sr. and Lois Fawcett Glover of Lonoke. Longing for the community of their families who had descended from early Arkansas pioneers, the trio returned to Arkansas when Roy was six months old. He was a proud member of a family that now numbers seven generations of Arkansas Glovers. Roy graduated from North Little Rock High School in Pulaski County in 1946. Shortly thereafter, he enlisted in the United States Marines Corps and was stationed in San Diego. He was home on leave when he met the love of his life, Rosemary Campbell Glover. They were married on June 28, 1948. After Roy's time with the Marines he and Rosemary moved to North Little Rock where their son James Henry was born in 1949. Roy joined the Army Reserve that same year and was stationed in Fort Bragg in North Carolina. His unit was activated on December 24, 1950. He spent the next two years traveling across Europe picking up equipment and supplies and shipping to the troops in Korea. Upon his return from the military in 1952 with his wife and two children, the family moved back to North Little Rock. He was the CEO of Glover Truck and Trailer Sales, Inc. He served on the Board of Directors for National Bank of Arkansas and developed commercial real estate until his passing. Roy was a member of Sylvan Hills Community Church in North Little Rock where he was a member of the Board of Directors for many years. Roy was an industrious man who never seemed to stop moving or laughing. He loved sports. He loved to hunt and fish, especially with his sons and grandchildren. He managed and played on church softball teams for many years and sponsored many youth sports teams. For several years in a row, he along with his brother Bobby, his lifelong friend, Irv Daniels, and other team members, won the "Pride of the Fleet" award at the World Championship Cardboard Boat Races. His family and friends were never surprised to hear of a new nick name he had invented for any one of them. (Waxy, Bugga, Stoney and Cooley know what we're talking about). He was a gifted tooth puller and grandchild wrestler. Roy is predeceased by his parents. He is survived by Rosemary, his wife of 68 years: two sons, James Henry Glover and wife Anne of North Little Rock, and George Albert Glover and wife Cindy of Sherwood; two daughters, Robin Ann Glover George and husband Gary of Springdale, and Lois Kathleen Glover of North Little Rock; six granddaughters, Molly (Zak) Knutson of Los Angeles; Courtney (Joey) Rector of Little Rock; Mary Kathyrn (Matthew) Brown of Fayetteville; and Julie (Patrick) Swope of Rogers; Natalie Inmon Davis of Scott and Meredith Lauren Glover of North Little Rock; four grandsons, Rustin (Gretchen) Glover of Little Rock; Charles (Samantha) George of Springdale; Carl (Anna) George of Fayetteville; and George (Kelli) Glover of North Little Rock. Roy is also survived by great-grandchildren, Bailey and Campbell Brown, Hayden and Carter Swope, Brayden Glover, Liam Rector, Asher, Garrick and Beckett George, Lillian and Ella George, Sam and Sofia Glover, Charlie, Campbell and Cooper Glover. He leaves his brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Willie Glover of Lonoke, and many dear friends. Roy will be missed by all, especially by his grandchildren, his many nieces, nephews and their friends to whom he was affectionately known as HO HO. Visitation will be on Thursday, August 11, 2016 from 5-7 p.m. at Smith-North Little Rock Funeral Home, North Little Rock, Arkansas 72114. Funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m.Friday August 12, 2016 at Sylvan Hills Community Church, Sherwood, Arkansas 72120. Burial with military honors will follow at AR State Veterans Cemetery, North Little Rock. The family wishes to thank the staff and many friends of Parkstone Place, Fox Ridge, the doctors and nurses and staff of Sherwood Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, The Heart Hospital and Arkansas Hospice.
