John Arthur Spurgeon

John Arthur Spurgeon, 67, of Lowell, died Thursday, March 24, 2016 at Willard Walker Hospice Home in Fayetteville. John was born in Terra Haute, Ind. to Charles Haddon and June Frances Driscoll Spurgeon. John served in the Army during the Vietnam War and then was a police officer with the City of Monroe, La. He retired after 34 years as an ATF agent. Following retirement John was a gallery guide at Crystal Bridges in Bentonville, and was a consultant with the FFL Guard. John was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Tontitown. He loved skiing, reading, traveling and his dogs. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Jennifer Spurgeon-Summerfield. He is survived by his wife, Dee Spurgeon; five children, Nichole Schlais and husband Joe, Heather Griffin and husband Shane, Neal Spurgeon and wife Olga, Carla Hodges and husband Jeff, Leigh Collins and husband Jon; a sister, Anne Sanders and husband Jerry; three favorite nieces; 10 grandchildren, one great-grandchild; and best friends, John and Teri Zamillo. A family memorial service is planned later this year. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church, P.O. Box 39, Tontitown, Ark. 72270 for the sanctuary fund.
