Newton L. Cannon, 87, beloved husband, brother, father, and grandfather, died May 24, 2015 in Fayetteville, Arkansas. He was born August 28, 1927 at Alamo, Arkansas. He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Kinsey Cannon; his parents, James Wallace Cannon and Myrtle Mullings Cannon; and his sister, Cora Cannon Murphy. He is survived by his wife, Kay Cannon; sister, Thema Norman of Vacaville, Calif.; daughters Vernoice Baldwin and husband Mike Baldwin of Fayetteville and Carmeletta Withers of Fort Smith; three granddaughters, Emily Baldwin Digby and husband Jeremy Digby of Prairie Grove, Suzannah Withers Wiley and husband Chuck Wiley of Sallisaw, Okla.; Jill Withers of Fort Smith; and one grandson, Michael Baldwin and wife Katie Baldwin of Farmington; two great-granddaughters, Katherine Marcotte and Emelia Baldwin. Newton Cannon loved his family and made friends with all he met. He served in the Army in WWII, worked for the Civil Service, Weyerhaeuser, Montgomery County, and as a Wal-Mart greeter in Fayetteville. He was a member of Buckner Baptist Church and the Masonic Lodge. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 on May 26 at Peak Cemetery in Garland County. Memorials may be made to the Peak Cemetery Fund in care of Ester Powell, 371 Nomoe Road, Royal, Ark. 71968. Arrangements were made under the direction of Thornton Funeral Home of Mount Ida, AR.
