Carolyn Kay Wells Trumbo-Havens died April 30, 2015 in Fayetteville, Arkansas. Kay was born in Norman, Oklahoma on March 3, 1934 to Loyal Hamilton Wells and Bess W. Wells. Kay chose the University of Arkansas for her college education, graduating with High Honors in History in 1956. While at the university, Kay served as president of Pi Beta Phi Sorority, was elected to the campus Who's Who, and, in 1955, was chosen to be a Razorback Beauty. For her outstanding academic credentials she was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. In 1963 she obtained a M.A. in History. Professionally, Kay began her working life as a teacher in the Fayetteville Public Schools, including Leverett Elementary and Woodland Junior High. In 1982 Kay joined the University of Arkansas as Assistant to the Dean of the College of Business. She became Director of Special Events for the University of Arkansas in 1988. As director, she was instrumental in the production of the All-University Commencements each May. She coordinated University of Arkansas Board of Trustees meetings and planned events for state legislators and other VIP groups. When Kay retired from the university in 2000, the Board of Trustees noted, "Kay's strong leadership and graceful manner have made strong public service contributions to the progress of the University and her community." Kay was a devoted member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church for over 50 years. She enjoyed her memberships in P.E.O and the Pi Beta Phi Alumna. A special pleasure was membership in the Modern Literature Club. Recently, Kay served as a Trustee of the Butterfield Trail Village Foundation. Kay is survived by her sister, Peggy W. Swatzell of Kingfisher, Oklahoma. She is also survived by her husband of 17 years, Jerry A. Havens. Kay was a loyal and devoted mother to her children with her first husband, Bass Trumbo. They are: Jay Hamilton Trumbo and his wife Karen of Louisville, Kentucky and Carolyn Bass Trumbo and her husband, Dennis Tune, of Fayetteville. Jerry Haven's children also survive Kay. They are: John "Jay" Havens of Fayetteville and Julie Havens of Savannah, Georgia. Kay's grandchildren include: Dalton Trumbo, Michael Trumbo, Walker Trumbo Smith and John M. "Max" Havens. Memorial services will be held at 4 p.m., Monday, May 5th at St Paul's Episcopal Church with a reception to follow. The family wishes to give special thanks to the kind and professional care Kay received at Butterfield Trail Village Health Care Center and the Willard Walker Hospice Home in Fayetteville. Memorial donations may be made to St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 224 N East Street, Fayetteville, Ark., and the Fayetteville Public Library, 401 West Mountain Street, Fayetteville, Ark.
