Dorothy Louise "Dot" Dugan, 92, of Lowell, Ark., passed away peacefully at home on March seven. She was born Dorothy Chandler in June of 1922 in Cheyenne, Wyoming to parents Harry, (one of the first U.S. airmail pilots,) and homemaker Louise Chandler. Dorothy was a beautiful, loving wife and mother who earlier in life began a fantastic career in the Ice Capades in 1940's New York. Raised and living in New York, she captained a group of ice skaters who toured in ice shows and performed in some of the most famous clubs in the U.S. and Europe. These shows sometimes included famous stars such as Mickey Rooney, Dean Martin, Jerry Lewis, and Olympian Sonja Henie. While touring, Dorothy met and married a career army man, Fred A. Dugan. They travelled the globe with the military raising four children. The family finally settled in Arkansas after reading an article about Arkansas' beauty and rural life, raising Charolais cattle along with their own army brats. Dorothy was kind and loving to all those she met. She loved her Catholic church, St. Vincent De Paul in Rogers and rarely missed a mass. Dot, (as Fred called her,) accepted and cared for all the creatures her wild children brought home from endless dogs and cats to opossums, parrots, and even a monkey. She was loved by all who knew her. Dorothy was preceded in death by her sister Vee Hartman, brother Harry Chandler, and loving husband Fred. She is survived by daughter Mary and son in law Rob Kirkgasler; son Fred and daughter in law Barb Dugan; daughter Alison and son in law Todd McTaggart; daughter Denise Dugan; and grandchildren Sean, Katie, and Ryan Dugan. The family would like to thank Hospice of Northwest Arkansas and their staff, Holly, Becky, and Debbie among others, Pastor Chuck, terrific aide Wanda, and especially tireless volunteer Nancy. Their care and advice during Dorothy's battle with cancer was of great help. Memorials are suggested to City of Lowell Animal Shelter, 216 N. Lincoln, Lowell, Arkansas 72745. Visitation will be Thursday, March 12 from 5-7 p.m. in the Chapel of Rollins Funeral Home in Rogers. A Graveside funeral service will be at 11:30am, Friday, March 13 at Frisco Springs Cemetery east of Lowell. Arrangements are under the care of Rollins Funeral Home in Rogers. www.RollinsFuneral.com.
