Delbert Doyle Moad

Delbert Doyle Moad, 67, died March 6, 2015 at his home in Alpena, Ark. Del was born Aug. 28, 1947 in Rogers, Ark. He was the son of the late Delbert Doyle Moad, Sr and the late Nina Bell Hines. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Janice Elliot. Del is survived by his wife, Elizabeth F. Moad; a son, Chris and his wife Kylie Moad; and a daughter, Amanda and her husband Kenny Thornton. He had four grandchildren-Carter and Kyndal Moad and Madelyn and Eli Thornton. He is also survived by two sisters, Shelia Richardson and Connie Carmichael, and several nieces and nephews. Del graduated from Rogers High School in 1965. Shortly after high school, he joined the United States Army. Del served his country during the Vietnam War where he was decorated in the field by General Duke. His service resulted in numerous illnesses from Agent Orange. After leaving the military, Del moved to Calif. where he joined the Los Angeles Police Department, thus starting a lengthy career in law enforcement. In 1973, after 4 years in the LAPD, Del was hired by the Arkansas State Police. He moved to Calico Rock, Ark. where he called home and raised his family. Del retired in 2003 after serving 30 years as an Arkansas State Trooper for Izard County. Del was very active in the community during his time in Calico Rock. He was very proud to have started the Calico Rock Booster Club, which is still actively supporting student athletes today. Del reorganized the Industrial Development Corporation, establishing the Industrial Park and eventually the North Central Correctional Unit. Del was passionate about the local school and his church. He was instrumental in obtaining the site for the new high school. Del was of the Methodist faith. He helped locate the site of the new Calico Rock United Methodist Church and was heavily involved in the construction of the building. Del never met a stranger. He was always taking someone under his wing, whether it was buying clothes or shoes or a laptop for college. He had a gruff exterior but a big heart. People loved to hate Del. He enjoyed fishing and sports, especially his beloved Razorbacks. He loved his German Sheppard, Sadie, who was constantly by his side. Del was an avid reader and also a published author. He was most passionate about his kids, which he loved dearly. He will be greatly missed. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Calico Rock United Methodist Church Building Fund. Visitation will be Monday, March 9, 2015 from 11-1 at Calico Rock United Methodist Church. Funeral service will be Monday, March 9 beginning at 1 p.m. at Calico Rock United Methodist Church with Paul Seay officiating. Burial will be at Fayetteville National Cemetery under the direction of Eddie's Family Funeral Home in Calico Rock. Pallbearers: Gregg Alexander, Jim Lindsey, Joe Martz, Harold Jeffery, Galen Harris, and David McNeill. Honorary Pallbearers: Bob Hunter, Gary Seacord, Allen Trillingham, and Gary Elofson.
