Robert L. (Bob) Corrotto, Sr.

Robert L. (Bob) Corrotto, Sr., 92, of Fort Smith, entered eternal rest Monday, Feb. 23, 2015. Born June 14, 1922, in Fort Smith, he was the second youngest of thirteen children of the late William L. and Anna A. Corrotto. As a boy, Bob was a member of Immaculate Conception Church, built by his maternal Grandfather, Contractor, Mr. Rudolph Metzger. Bob was the retired owner of Business Interiors, in downtown Fort Smith. He graduated from St. Anne's High School and attended the University of Oklahoma on a football scholarship. He was a WWII Veteran in the United States Coast Guard and worked on the once Classified Top Secret U.S. Military development of the Loran system. In 1945, Bob married Irene E. Hammer at Saint Boniface Church where they remained parishioners during their marriage of 56 years when Bob survived Irene's death in 2001. Bob is now survived by two daughters, Jane Ann Johnston and husband DuVal, Susan Lieux and husband Kent Cummins, all of Fort Smith; a son, Robert L. Corrotto, Jr. and partner Jill Hamann of Fayetteville; a sister, Imelda Cooksey of Ft. Smith; two granddaughters, Candace Cross, husband, Donnie, of Ft. Smith, Krista Lieux of Miami, Fla.; a grandson, Benjamin Johnston of Dallas, Texas; three great-grandchildren, Greyson, Greta Ann and Georgia Elizabeth Beasley, all of Fort Smith. Bob was also preceded in death by seven brothers, Bill, Nick, Ralph, Leo, Albert, Gene and Louis Corrotto and four sisters, Lucille, Marguerite, Anna and Catherine. Funeral Mass was Thursday, Feb. 26, 2015 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Fort Smith. Burial was at Holy Cross Cemetery under the direction of Ocker-Putman Funeral Home. Pallbearers were Mike and Pat Stanton, DuVal and Benjamin Johnston, Bill Lenhardt, Patrick Scherry and Mike Simmons. Memorial contributions may be made to Immaculate Conception Catholic School, in Fort Smith.
