Dero Phillips

Dero Phillips was born in 1921 in Kingston, Ark., where he graduated from high school in 1940. He served in the U.S. Army Air Force from 1942 until 1945 and flew 50 combat missions from North Africa and Italy in B-17s with the 99th Bomb Group. He was an aerial gunner and was credited with shooting down an enemy aircraft. After World War II, Dero Phillips returned to Berryville, Ark. and worked as an Auto mechanic. He later attended college at Russellville and opened his own business, Phillips Auto Salvage, in Springdale in 1950. He retired in 1985. He was a Christian and enjoyed reading scriptures and fishing. He was married to Hazel Tenniec Hargis from 1946 until her death in 1997. He was married to Roslee Bykirk from 1998 until his death. He is also survived by a son, David Dero Phillips of Springdale; a granddaughter, Whitney Tenniec Phillips of Stuttgart, West Germany; and a great-granddaughter, Sophia MacDonald-Barber of Blackpool, England. Funeral services will be Wednesday, March 4, 2015 at 10 a.m. at Sisco Funeral Chapel of Springdale. Burial will follow in Fayetteville National Cemetery with Military Honors.
