Charles Oliver Hastings, 71, of Gravette, Ark. Went to be with the Lord on June 1, 2015. He was born on February 27, 1944, in Muldrow, Okla. to Marion Hastings and Fern (Oliver) Hastings. He lived in Gravette for the past 18 years. He was a retired Lieutenant Commander from the Navy where he was a pilot and served tours in Vietnam and many other places. Among his awards and citations were Navy Achievement Medal (2), Navy Unit Commendation, Meritorious Unit Commendation, Navy Unit Expeditionary Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon (2 Stars), Navy and Marine Corps Overseas Service Ribbon. He was a teacher at Gravette Public Schools for 5 years where he administered the Alternative School. He cared deeply for his students and helped many to graduate high school. He is survived by his wife, Jo Ellen Hastings; daughter Heather Hastings of Norfolk, Virginia; daughter Leslie Nichols and husband Dennis, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; and son Charles Hastings and wife Jackie, of St. Louis, Missouri; five grandchildren; and sisters Sue Hastings and Nyla Edwards. Funeral service will be at the National Cemetery in Fayetteville, on Monday, June 8, at 10 a.m. where he will be buried with full military honors under the direction of Bella Vista Funeral Home. There will be no visitation and in lieu of flowers friends are asked to contribute to India Missions for Christ at indiamissionsforchrist.org.
