Winona Christine McCollum

Winona Christine McCollum, died Saturday, January 10, 2015. She was born to James William Miller and Flora Page Miller on November 13, 1929 in Camden, Arkansas. She attended and graduated from Arkansas State Teachers College and taught school in Hartman, Arkansas. She also attended Warner Brown School of Nursing, for a three-year residential program and completed her nursing degree there. She married Edward Newton McCollum on December 21, 1954. She was an accomplished artist and enjoyed art. She was also a calligrapher. She was a master gardener, growing many unusual breeds of plants and flowers and even photographed a number of unusual plants and wildflowers. She was known for being able to transplant unusual wildflowers and having them thrive. She had grown thousands of daylilies on a yearly basis. She loved animals, including her many cats over the years and enjoyed feeding and watching wild birds. A philanthropist, she was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Bentonville for more than 40 years. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dr. E.N. McCollum, M.D.; and her sister, Vera Jeanette Herrington. She is survived by five children, Dr. William E. McCollum, M.D., Kim Eiler, Michelle McCollum, Michael McCollum and Kelly McCollum; seven grandchildren, Ashley McCollum, Nicholas Eiler, Christopher Eiler and Will Lancett; and four great-grandchildren; brother and sister-in-laws, Sid and Kay McCollum and Nancy McCollum; four nieces, Suzanne Riddle, Jan Gates, Margo Germany, Ginny Hogue, Allison Nicholson; and one nephew, Robert McCollum. There will be a private burial service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice in her honor.
