George Calvin Tate 84, of Rogers, Ark., loving and cherished father, passed away peacefully at his home February 22, 2015. George was born October 23, 1930 in Whitwell, Tenn. The son of William Lewis and Millicent Caroline Lewis Tate. He proudly served with the United States Marine Corps in the Korean War. After his military service, he joined Bear Brand Hosiery where he worked his way to Plant Manager for 30 years, then at ATCO Rubber Products for 23 years from which he retired. He was a member of Calvary Freewill Baptist Church in Springdale. He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Colene Tate; his parents, two brothers and a sister, and his son, David Dempsey Tate. He is survived by his children, Georgie Ann Tate, and Angelia Dawn Tate Baier (Brad) of Rogers, and Calvin Brent Tate (Martha) of Dallas, Texas and Sandra Diane Hood (Ray) of Ringgold, Ga.; four sisters: Margaret Fredrickson of Lowell, Judy Davis and Bobbie Martin both of Little Rock, and Peggy Lynch of Fayetteville, five grandchildren and one special great-granddaughter, Eva Marie. George was a past Member of the Kiwanis Club in Bentonville. He enjoyed league bowling with several of his friends from his Bear Brand family and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He spent several years coaching and managing Little League and Babe Ruth baseball in the City of Bentonville. George was a loving husband, hardworking, and a strong supportive father setting the example for his family and friends in so many ways. We love and miss you Dad. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, February 25, 2015 at Stockdale-Moody Funeral Services in Rogers. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, February 26, 2015 at Calvary Freewill Baptist Church in Springdale with Pastor Clark Snow and Pastor Arthur Lee Galloway officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Memorial Gardens in Fayetteville. Memorials may be made in honor of George Tate to the Wounded Warrior Project, www.woundedwarriorproject.org/Donate.
