William J. "Bill" Fields

William J. "Bill" Fields passed away Feb. 20, 2015 in Fayetteville. Bill was born Jan. 18, 1926 in (Whitesboro) Gander, Ky. to Dewey and Cisiah Fields. He was a member of Center Street Church of Christ of Fayetteville, owned Fields Plumbing and Heating Company, served in the United States Army in World War II, receiving the Purple Heart for an injury at the Battle of The Bulge and loved gardening and fishing. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Casi Hemmerle; four sisters, Letha Wagonshutz, Alice Kilby, Janette Carter and Lily Elliott; two brothers, Bob Fields and Delano Fields; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Virginia Fields; two daughters, Cheri Dockery and her husband George of Pittsburg, Kan. and Linda Oxford and her husband Keith of Rogers, Ark.; two sisters, Bexie Coss of Waynesburg, Ky. and Louanza Whitaker of Shepardville, Ky.; one brother, Charles Fields of Waynesburg, Key.; seven grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held from 6–7 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 24, at Moore's Chapel. Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday at Fairview Memorial Gardens in Fayetteville under the direction of Moore's Chapel Funeral Home.
