The Reverend Doctor Benjamin Gee Hines, 88, of Bentonville, Ark. passed away Friday, Aug. 28, 2015 at Mercy Hospital in Rogers. He was born Feb. 13, 1927 in Smackover, Ark. to Carl Benjamin Hines and Cleo Gee Hines. He joined the United States Army in 1944 during WWII and was stationed in France, Germany and Austria. He attended college at Henderson State University in Arkadelphia, Arkansas and was a college cheerleader, a member of Pi Sigma Epsilon Fraternity, Heart & Key, the 1948 STAR Business Manager. He graduated in 1948. He received a master's degree from Vanderbilt University in 1952, and received a Masters of Divinity Degree in 1961 from Perkins School of Theology in Dallas, Texas. In 1986 Ben received an honorary Doctorate of Divinity from Hendrix College in Conway, Ark. As an educator, he taught history at Camden High School in Camden, Ark., coached football and later became the Camden High School principal. While living in Fayetteville, Ben was on staff at the University of Arkansas in the Division of General Extension. In ministry, he served as Sr. Pastor in United Methodist Churches across Arkansas in Camden, Little Rock, West Memphis, Forrest City District Superintendent, Bentonville, Fort Smith, and Rogers. While living in Dallas, he was on staff at Highland Park United Methodist Church. He served for 40 plus years in the ministry as Pastor and Superintendent. During his years in the ministry he served on the Board of Trustees for Methodist Hospital in Memphis, Tenn., the Board of Trustees for Hendrix College, was a Board Member for NW Arkansas Conference of Finance and Administration for the United Methodist Church, was Chair of NW Arkansas Conference Nominating Committee for the United Methodist Church and a member of the Community Leadership Team to establish NWACC. He was also an active member of the Rotary Club. He retired in 1992 to Bentonville and became the Associate Pastor at the First United Methodist Church in Bentonville and later Pastor Emeritus. He married Marjorie Maxine McCauley on Aug. 31, 1947. She preceded him in death on June 22, 2015 after 68 years together. Ben is survived by one son, David Gee Hines and wife, Susan of Edmond, Okla.; one daughter, Susan Kennedy and husband, Pat of Bentonville; four grandchildren, Ben Bogle and wife, Sarah of Sandestin, Fla., Erin Easley and husband, Jason of Gravette, Ark., Scott Hines of Oklahoma City, Okla., Megan Gaines and husband, Zac of Edmond, Okla.; six great-grandchildren, Halie Easley, Brittney Easley, Lukas Easley, Harper Gaines, Tatum Gaines, and Annie Gaines and one sister, Carolyn Rix of Hot Springs, Ark. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 1, 2015 at Stockdale-Moody Funeral Services of Rogers. Funeral services will be at 12 noon, Wednesday, Sept. 2, 2015 at First United Methodist Church in Bentonville with the Rev. Dr. Kurt Boggan and the Rev. Rex Dickey officiating. Burial will follow in Bentonville Cemetery.
