Gladys Adelle Powell, age 89, of Springdale, died Wednesday, August 12, 2015 in Fayetteville. She was born October 22, 1925 in Meyers, Arkansas (near Mt. Ida), the daughter of Alonzo and Avis Tallent. She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters Audine and Clarys, and brothers Marshall and Paul. She was a retired home economics school teacher, having taught in Gravette and Mena. She was a graduate of Mt. Ida High School and the University of Arkansas. She lived in the 4-H House at the University of Arkansas and was an active member of the Baptist Student Union. She was a member of Fayetteville First Baptist Church. She was also a Sunday school teacher for many years. Most importantly, she was a wife, mother and grandmother. She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Curtis Powell, Sr.; three daughters, Sheila Strickland and her husband Richard of Ft. Worth, Texas, Karen Johnson and her husband Tom of Springdale and Helen Eaton and her husband Ron of Fayetteville; two sons, Anthony Powell and his wife Kittie of Springdale and Curt Powell, Jr. and his wife Karen of Springdale; two sisters, Juanita Tallent of Little Rock and Anita Noel of Lamar, Missouri; 13 grandchildren, Amy Meade, Beverly Smith, Tony Powell, John Powell, Sandra Bembenek, Mark Strickland, Katie Cook, David Powell, Jennifer Horne, Tommy Johnson Jr., Adam Johnson, Amanda Lachut and Andrew Eaton and 24 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held 5 p.m. – 7 p.m., Friday, August 14, 2015 at Moore's Chapel. Funeral service will be 2 p.m., Saturday at Fayetteville First Baptist Church. Graveside service will be 2 p.m., Monday at the Fayetteville National Cemetery, under the direction of Moore's Chapel.
