Fred R. Pflederer

Fred Raymond Pflederer, 87, passed away peacefully on April 29, 2015 after a short stay at Circle of Life Hospice Home in Bentonville, Arkansas. He was born in Elgin, Illinois to the late Fred (a fireman) and Emma (a homemaker, nee Schmidgall) Pflederer. After high school Fred enlisted in the Army and served overseas in the 53rd constabutary, T5 as part of the post-war occupation in Germany. He received the World War II Victory Medal and the Army of Occupation Medal. He attended Northwestern University on the G.I. Bill and received a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the Technological Institute. While on co-op in Milwaukee Fred met Mary Jane Bauernfeind, the love of his life, with whom he enjoyed 61 years of marriage. Fred was a registered professional engineer and had a long career in Research and Development at the A.O. Smith Corporation in Milwaukee, Wis. and was listed as inventor on five patents. Fred and Mary Jane relished retiring to Bella Vista, Arkansas in 1992, and spent many years enjoying camping, fishing, boating, hunting and hiking together. Fred especially enjoyed bicycling with good friends and the Bella Vista Woodcarvers' Club, serving as president in 2001. Fred was an Elder and Deacon in Presbyterian churches and was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels and Crime Watch in Bella Vista. Fred was predeceased by his wife, Mary Jane and his brother, Lyle Pflederer. He is survived by his loyal brothers, Galen and Jack, his daughters, Janet Pflederer and Gail (Alan) McNichols and son, Ray Pflederer, and his grandchildren, Jakob (Rose) and Ethan Pflederer and Jessie, Andrew and Samantha McNichols. A memorial service will be held at the Presbyterian Church of Bella Vista on Friday, May 1, 2015 at 1 p.m. and internment will be at Wisconsin Memorial Park in Brookfield, Wisconsin at a later date.
