Mr. Gerald D. "Jerry" Doherty, 77, of Pineville, Missouri, departed this life on Wednesday, April 15, 2015, at Mercy Medical Center, in Rogers, Arkansas, after a recent battle with cancer. Jerry entered this life on December 15, 1937, in Paola, Kansas, to the late Clifford William and Mildred (Rossman) Doherty. He was raised and graduated high school in Paola, Kansas. He furthered his education at Kansas University, earning his Mechanical Engineering Degree in 1963. On August 19, 1961, in Kansas City, Missouri, he was united in marriage to Claudine A. Elliott and together they have shared the last 53 years. He worked in the paper industry for four years with the Beloit Corporation before beginning his 28 year career with the Sara Lee Corporation as Vice President of Engineering. After retiring from Sara Lee he continued in the food industry as President of Dunbar Systems in Lemont, Illinois. He never fully retired but did decide to slow down and focus on doing consulting work. Claudine and he moved to the Mountain Ridge community near Pineville, Missouri, in October of 2006. Jerry was a Veteran of the United States Army. He was preceded in death by his parents; two infant daughters, Shawn Beth and Paige Ann; and a brother, James Charles "Jim" Doherty. Jerry is survived by his wife, Claudine Doherty of the home; two children, Bryn Leigh Doherty of Chicago, Illinois and Ryan Elliott Doherty of Grantsville, Utah; two grandsons, Decker Elliott Doherty and Sawyer Elliott Doherty; a brother, Clifford William "Bill" Doherty and wife, Emelia, of Olathe, Kansas; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other family and friends. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, April 26, 2015, at 12:30 p.m. at the River Ranch Resort in Noel, Missouri, with Pastor Marilyn O'Brien officiating. A catered luncheon will follow the service. His place of final rest will be in the McNelly Cemetery inPaola, Kansas. In lieu of flowers memorials are being directed to The Center, 12700 Southwest Highway, Palos Park, Illinois 60464.
