Martha Elizabeth McArtor Eldred

Martha Elizabeth McArtor Eldred passed from this earthly life to her reward on April 14, 2015 in the Highland Nursing Center of Rogers. She was 102 years of age and born in Tahlequah, Okla., on July 4, 1912 to William H. and Luna McDaniel McArtor. As a young adult she moved with her parents from Oklahoma to Sulphur Springs, where she was married to Ben M. Eldred, December 10, 1932. She was a homemaker for her family, plus served the Methodist Church and the community of Sulphur Springs various ways, especially singing at public events with her lovely soprano voice. She became a widow at an early age. To support the minor children at home she was employed in the business office of Gravette Hospital. She later became a house mother for the Methodist Children's Home in Pryor, Okla. She then worked as an associate for the Wal-Mart stores in Springdale and Siloam Springs. She is survived by her seven children, Elizabeth Jo (Carol) Crom of Garland, Texas, Evelyn Eldred of Lowell, Jean Mitchell of Frisco, Texas, R.H. "Rocky" (Virginia) Eldred of Bella Vista, Lucia Taylor of Brandon, Florida, W.B. "Bill" (Glenda) Eldred of Gravette, Annette (Tommy) Hughes of Alamo, Texas; 11 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and a host of friends. She was preceded in death by an infant brother, Charles; both parents; her husband Ben in 1959; and a brother, Walter, in 2012. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, April 16, 2015 at Callison-Lough Funeral Home in Bentonville. A graveside service and interment will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday in the Grand Army of the Republic Cemetery in Sulphur Springs. Methodist Pastor Eric Meyer will officiate.
