Gary Leonard Word, a man of quiet strength and passion for family and unflagging loyalty to his country, stepped out of his earthly clothes and into an unblemished body and perfect robes provided by his Heavenly Father on Monday, March 30th, 2015 in Rogers, Ark., in the midst of his family. Born in Camden, Ark. on May 3rd, 1949, Gary was husband to, Nannette Word, Daddy to Tim Word, Lori Broadbooks, and Lindy Wise, and Papaw to T.J. Word, Laila, Reese, and Bailey Broadbooks, and Cassady, Luke, and Emma Wise. He is survived by his sisters Tammy Larkins and Michelle Eiland, and his brother Marty Harbour. Gary was preceded in death by his father, Leonard Word, and his mother, Jessie Faye Orr. Gary served honorably at Vietnam in the 1st Battalion, 5th Regiment of the United States Marine Corp, receiving the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal with 1 Combat Action Ribbon, and the Vietnam Campaign Medal with device Rifle Sharpshooter Badge. Sixty-five years of life passed with many obstacles, but created in Gary a character not seen in common man. He loved with such conviction, committed himself to the care of his parents, and lavished intense love upon his wife, children, and grandchildren. Rollins Funeral Home in Rogers has arranged a graveside service to take place in the Fayetteville National Cemetery at 2 p.m. on Thursday, April 2nd, 2015. www.Rollinsfuneral.com.
