Clara Jean Long, age 86, of Springdale, Ark., passed away on Thursday, Sept. 18, 2014 at the Homestyle Assisted Living in Springdale, Ark. She was born on April 9, 1928, in Ozark, Ark., a daughter of John and Bessie Mayse. She worked as a storekeeper alongside her husband at Long's Grocery; she was a member of Temple Baptist Church in Springdale and worked in the church nursery. She was also a longtime member of Washington County Extension Club and volunteered at the hospital auxiliary. She is preceded in death by her husband, Verlin Everett Long; one brother, Bobby Dale Mayse; two sisters, Dorothy Lee Mayse and Josephine Mayse. Clara is survived by her children, Jerry Long and wife Barbara of Springdale, Ark., Ron Long and wife Savannah of Ozark, Mo., and Deborah Jessee and husband Edgar of Springdale, Ark.; three grandchildren, Tina Hughes and husband Troy of Rogers, Ark., Rocky Long and wife Jenny of West Plains, Mo., and Ethan Jessee and wife Brinlee of Springdale, Ark; two great-grandchildren, Addison Long and Randy Stout; one great-great- granddaughter, Kristen Stout; two sisters, Betty Johnson and husband Lonnie of Springdale, Ark., and Peggy Rodgers of Rogers, Ark.; and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Sunday, Sept. 21, 2014, at the Backstrom-Pyeatte Funeral Chapel in Springdale, Ark., from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 22, 2014, at the Temple Baptist Church in Springdale, Ark.
