Preston E. Garrett
Preston E. Garrett, 80, of Rogers, Ark., passed away Saturday, Sept. 13, 2014, at Circle of Life Legacy Village in Bentonville, Ark. He was born Aug. 31, 1934, in Madison County, Ark., to Marvin Eugene and Lottie Caroline Jackson Garrett.
He served in the United States Army and served two years at Fort Chaffee and was a graduate of Huntsville State Vocational School.
Preston was an active member of Southside Church of Christ, where he served as an elder, deacon, Sunday school teacher, Bible hour teacher and Joy bus captain. He had served on the Board of Directors of Green Valley Bible Camp and had also served as a camp registrar. For 25 years he sang at nursing homes in the area with a group from the church.
He was retired from Rockline Industries in Springdale where he served in many capacities in management. He had also worked for 23 years at Bear Brand Hosiery Company.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Laurene Ross, Ruby Taylor and Geneva Ross; and one brother, Wayne Garrett.
Preston is survived by his wife of 58 years, Joyce L. Fowler Garrett; one son, Mike Garrett and wife, Kathy, of Bella Vista, Ark.; one daughter, Karen Garrett of Rogers; four sisters, Eutha Parkerson of Farmington, Ark., Lucille Rhodes of Springdale, Ark., Robbie Sullins and husband, Van, of Greenland, Ark., Nadine Mitchell and husband, Bob, of McKinney, Texas; one brother, Keith Garrett and wife, Belin, of Garden Grove, Calif.; one sister-in-law, Rachel Garrett of West Fork, Ark.; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 18, 2014, at Southside Church of Christ in Rogers.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 19, 2014, at Southside Church of Christ, with Minister Jackie Chesnutt officiating. Burial will be at 3 p.m. at Drakes Creek Cemetery in Madison County, Ark.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Green Valley Bible Camp, 3100 Monte Ne Road, Rogers, AR 72758; or Circle of Life Legacy Village, 1202 N.E. Legacy Parkway, Bentonville, AR 72712.
