Clifford L. Conklin, 95, of Bentonville, Ark., passed away early in the morning on Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2014, at Washington Regional Hospital in Fayetteville, Ark. He was born July 22, 1919, in Keota, Iowa, to Charles Edward and Bertha Chapman Conklin. He married Caroline Sheets on Jan. 10, 1943, in the parsonage of the Presbyterian Church in Washington, Iowa. This past January, they celebrated their 71st wedding anniversary at their home in Bentonville surrounded by their children. Clifford proudly served four years in the United States Air Force. He worked for 10 years as county supervisor in Washington County, Iowa, and farmed his own land there for over 30 years. He and Caroline retired to Bentonville in October of 1976. While in Bentonville, he stayed busy volunteering at the hospitals, local schools and the Walmart Swim Club, and worked for Garden City and sold local real estate. Clifford had a love for traveling the United States, Canada, Hawaii and Europe with his family by his side. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and four sisters. Clifford is survived by his wife, Caroline of the home; seven children, Rex Stout and wife, Dorothy, of North English, Iowa, Robert Wide and wife, Janice, of Keota, Iowa, Shirley Waldrop and husband, Charles, of Sigourney, Iowa, Craig Conklin and wife, Shirley, of Sigourney, Iowa, Carol Peterson and husband, Eric, of Bella Vista, Ark., Jody Burkett and wife, Michelle, of Bentonville, Ark., and Nicole Seek of Bella Vista, Ark.; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. There are no services planned at this time. Clifford will be laid to rest in Keota, Iowa, at a later date. Arrangements have been entrusted to Stockdale-Moody Funeral Services of Rogers.
