Donald C. Wheeless, 88, of Bentonville passed away Thursday, Sept. 11, 2014, at Bentonville. He was born March 19, 1926, at Hopkinton, Iowa, to Frank Wheeless and Minnie Prideg Wheeless. He grew up in the small community of Hopkinton, graduated from high school and then joined the U.S. Navy. He saw action on the USS Knight and the Fitch, destroyers turned mine sweepers. After graduating from college with a business degree, he met Marjorie Engel and they were married in 1950. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII and the Korean conflict. He was recalled into the Navy three months after he married and served two years as a radioman on the Island of Guam. He was junior high principal for six years and later was claims superintendent for State Farm Ins. Co. After retirement, he began working on antique clocks as a hobby, which later turned into a small business. He was a member of the Church of the Nazarene in Pea Ridge, and is preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Dale; and a sister, Mary. Survivors are his wife of 64 years, Marjorie; two daughters, Jody Louise Wheeless of Houston, Texas, and Jill Diane Henry and husband, Mark, of Amana, Iowa; two sons, Jay Donald Wheeless and wife, Cherie, of Pea Ridge, and James Marion Wheeless and wife, Jennifer, of Bentonville; four grandchildren, Seth, Sadie, Jay M. and Emily; and two great-grandchildren, Jackson and Isla. Funeral services are set for 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 15 at the Church of the Nazarene in Pea Ridge, with Pastor Aaron Matthews officiating. A visitation is set from 10 to 11 a.m. before the service. Burial will be at Pea Ridge Cemetery, with Pastor Perry Morgan officiating. Pallbearers will be Jay Wheeless, Jim Wheeless, Jay M. Wheeless, Seth Henry, Larry Marlow and Bill Woods.
