Virgil Charles Raffety

Virgil C. Raffety, age 87, retired district service manager for NCR, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2014. He was born Sept. 10, 1926, in Sylvan Grove, Kan., the son of Stanley E. and Helen J. (Lawson) Raffety. On July 3, 1947, he married Pauline Howry in Manhattan, Kan. Virgil was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Jane Icks. Virgil was a member of the Bella Vista Community Church where he attended for 32 years. He was also very involved in Bella Vista Art Club where he was a past president and past director of the Art Festival. He also helped in the restoration of the Wishing Springs Art Gallery. Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Polly Raffety, Wichita, Kan.; son, Pat and wife, Cindy Raffety, Niotaze, Kan.; daughter, Shelley and husband, Bob Ostby, Wichita, Kan.; sister, Laura Arnold, Larnard, Kan.; grandchildren, Nick Raffety, Rebecca Raffety, Cale Ostby and Sean Ostby; two great-grandchildren, Madison and Gage Raffety. Private family services will be held at a later date. A memorial has been established with Alzheimer's Association, 1820 E. Douglas, Wichita, KS 67214.
