Dorothy Hesse

Dorothy (Kube) Hesse, 77, of Gravette, Ark., died Aug. 29, 2014, at her home. She was born March 9, 1937, in Crofton, Neb. She was the youngest child of Frank and Elizabeth Kube. When two young farm-raised kids met in the 1950s, it was not long after that a wedding was planned for Sept. 7, 1959, between Joseph (Bud) Hesse of Hartington, Neb., and Dorothy Kube of Crofton, Neb., at St. Rose Catholic Church. To this union was born eight children, Jolene (husband, Ralph Carter) from Joplin area, Steve (wife, Kim Barta) of Fayetteville, Judy (husband, Kevin Vance) of Bentonville, Marilyn (husband, Chuck Boecker) of Bentonville, Mark of Gravette, Kent (wife, Cheryl Varner) of Bentonville, Karen of Gravette and Valerie (husband, Tim Wright) of Fayetteville. She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Norman, Kenneth and Dennis Kube; and a sister, Arlene Jaycox. Dorothy is survived by her husband, Bud of the home; her children; 20 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; her sister, Jeanette Lammers; and dozens of nieces, nephews and cousins. The Hesses were busy raising their family, as well as owning and operating the Art Center Studio of Photography in Hartington, Neb., from 1962-1979. For a number of years, both Bud and Dorothy were a "pair" of leaders in the Chamber of Commerce and the Community Development Corp. Always looking for challenges, in 1979, they pulled up their roots and relocated in Bentonville, Ark., where they started a new studio, Woodland Photography. A devout Catholic, she was an early participant in the start of St. Stephen Parish in Bentonville where she was active in the choir as both a singer and pianist. She was also a very active conservative: she helped pioneer the home-school movement in Arkansas, started pro-life and conservative action groups and helped hold the first TEA Party rally in Benton County, as well as planning huge Kube family reunions in Nebraska. She loved her pets, landscaping and especially her grandchildren. A funeral mass and rosary will be at St. Stephen Church in Bentonville at 9:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 5, 2014. Her ashes will be laid to rest in the church Columbarium. Memorials may be made to the St. Stephen Building Fund, 1300 NE J St., Bentonville, AR 72712. Arrangements have been entrusted to Stockdale-Moody Funeral Services of Rogers. Words of comfort may be expressed at stockdalefuneral.com.
